A German Wikipedia contributor has made a gorgeous schematic map of Portland, Maine's streetcar (or Straßenbahn, in German) network, as it was in 1916:
Anonymous - I'd say this map is very accurate. There are several items at the Maine Historical Society on Congress Street that have maps of the streetcar network. Specifically, there are several copies of H.H. Hayes transportation guides from the late 1800's until they went out of business that have pull-out maps with the streetcar network and timetables. Fascinating stuff!
Beautiful map. And delightful, to have it coming seemingly out of the blue. How'd you find it?
ReplyDeleteGod I would love it if we had trolly cars.
ReplyDeleteLooks great. Any idea about what the source of the data was and if it's available?
